Gulf of Follonica
Although surrounded by the countryside, Massa Marittima is just a few kilometers from the sea. The village is the ideal starting point for a relaxing and resting holiday halfway between the hills and the beach. The nearest shores overlook the Gulf of Follonica, a long sandy creek where you can find free beach stretches and private beaches equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers.
Behind the gulf, along its length, extends a thick Mediterranean pine forest. This green area is crossed by numerous hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails. Going further into the hinterland, you will find yourself in open countryside, on gentle hills covered with vineyards and olive groves.
The gulf ends south with the promontory of Punta Ala, one of the most popular tourist areas on the Tuscan coast. The town and its marina offer beautiful beaches and a convenient harbor for mooring sailing and motorboats. A short distance from the promontory lies Castiglione della Pescaia, an ancient seaside village transformed into a summer tourist destination. Particularly appreciated is the crystal clear sea that covers its shores.
